Since I have never been to KY, I have no idea if his grave is properly marked. Dr. Hereford was my gr.gr. grandfather and I believe he served opposite of his son (my great grand mother's brother) who did serve in the Confederate Army

1st Corp. James H. Hereford is buried in the Hereford Cemetery in Prestonsburg. He has a VA marker noting his service for the CSA. His father Dr. Hereford, who fought for the union in the 39th Kentucky Infantry is also buried there. I don't recall whether he has a VA marker or not but will try and remember to check the next time I am in Prestonsburg.
